James Patrick Baxter, 65, of Cary, N.C., passed away the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at his home. James was born in New Castle on Sept. 29, 1948, to Harry E. and Marjorie P. Kelly Baxter. He was a 1966 graduate of New Castle High School and, in 1970, he earned his bachelor of science degree in business from Youngstown State University. James married the former Carol June Ormsby on Oct. 6, 1972, and she survives him at home. He served in the Air Force from 1972 to until he was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in 1976. James was employed as a purchasing agent for several international companies. He was an active member of St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Apex, N.C., as well as the Knights of Columbus Council 6650. Besides his wife, James is survived by his mother, Marjorie Baxter of New Castle; two brothers, Harry "Buff" Baxter and his wife, Sis, and Tom Baxter, both of New Castle; and a sister Maryann Medved, also of New Castle. James was preceded in death by his father, Harry E. Baxter; and a brother, William D. Baxter. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Mary Church. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.
