James Wayne Bartley, 90, of Shenango Twp. passed away Friday morning May 6, 2016 in UPMC Jameson.
Mr. Bartley was born on September 20, 1925 in Worth Twp., Butler County to the late Albert James and Wilda McCracken Bartley. A lifelong area resident, he attended Union High School.
James was employed by Kenney Tubular where he worked as a Plater until his retirement in 1986.
He had a love for Bluegrass music that began in his childhood. An accomplished fiddle player, Mr. Bartley, along with his brothers, Butch and Marvin, formed the Bartley Brother's Bluegrass Band which played in many venues over a 40 year span from the 1950's through 1980's.
Surviving are: his beloved wife of 64 years, the former Florence D. McCormick; two daugheters, Wilda (Robert) Stelter of New Castle and Elaine (Aaron) Martz of Slippery Rock; four sons, James Bartley, Daniel (Barb) Bartley and Carter Bartley all of New Castle; and Travis Bartley of Slippery Rock, one brother, Dale "Butch" Bartley of New Castle. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by: three brothers, Albert, Irl Lelsie "Corn" and Marvin Bartley; one sister, Phyllis Grucia; a granddaughter, Lisa Stelter; and his great granddaughter, Katie Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
