Obituary

Jake Ketnick, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Chestnut St., Wheatland, passed away at 8:10 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2012 in Odyssey Hospice Home, San Antonio, TX. He was 86.

Mr. Ketnick was born September 10, 1925 in Bertha #2 Mine, Jefferson Twp., Washington County, PA the son of the late Jakob and Angeline Sterle Ketnick. His family moved to the Ohio side of Sharon in 1926 shortly after his birth. He was a 1943 graduate of Brookfield High School, Brookfield, OH.

He was a long time member of Wheatland Farrell United Methodist Church, Farrell until he went to live with his daughter in Maryland.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during W.W. II aboard the minesweeper, the U.S.S. Nucleus. Following the war, Jake served a four year apprenticeship as a journeyman machinist. He was employed as a machinist with Sawhill Tubular Company for 18 years retiring in 1985.

Jake loved to hunt, fish, paint and draw. He also enjoyed traveling and dancing. He was a member of the former SNPJ Lodge # 262.

His wife, Eleanor Furlan Ketnick, whom he married February 17, 1949, passed away August 14, 2002.

He is survived by a son, David J. Ketnick and his wife Janis Taylor, San Antonio, TX, and three grandchildren, Sarah Holley, Stephanie Ketnick and Benjamin Ketnick and his wife Kyra; a son-in-law, Russell Holley, Columbia, MD.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Jake is preceded in death by a daughter, Karen L. Holley; three sisters, Mary Sullivan, Angeline Kutsko and Frances Patrick and two brothers, Louis and Frank Patrick.

The family suggests memorial contribution may be made to the American Lung Association 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.

Calling hours will be from 12 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries.
