Obituary

A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday for Dr. Jacques Albert Bataille, McDowell Street, Sharon, who passed away peacefully at 4:33 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015, in his residence. He was 88. Dr. Bataille was born July 11, 1926, in Port-Au- Prince, Haiti, one of four children born to Albert and Lydia Coicou Bataille. He began his medical studies at the University of Haiti, Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 1953. He began his internal medicine residency from 1956 to 1957 at Homer G. Phillips Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., continuing at Cumberland Hospital in New York City from 1957-58, Bronx Municipal Hospital from 1958-59 and Community Hospital, Wilmington, N.C., from 1959-60. He returned to Haiti as a medical doctor and was in private practice in Port-Au-Prince from 1960 to 1969. He was a staff physician and medical director at the former Muscatatuck State Hospital, Butlerville, Ind., where he practiced from 1971 to 1974. In 1974, Dr. Bataille became a naturalized citizen of the United States and also obtained his Pennsylvania medical license. Dr. Bataille served in private practice as an internist and held privileges for what is now Sharon Regional Health System from 1974 to 1980. His last assignment was through Butler Veterans Administration Hospital, where he worked from 1981 to 1996. Dr. Bataille was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. He is survived by: his wife, the former Micheline A. Desbiens; three sons, Jacques Bataille, O.D., Youngstown; Christian Bataille, Sharon; and Gary Bataille and his wife Regine Vachon Bataille, M.D., Delray Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Regine Bataille Gossard, O.D., and her husband Douglas Gossard, Beaver Falls; Nathalie Bataille, O.D., and her husband Paul Muldoon, Boca Raton, Fla.; and Nadine Bataille, Manhattan, N.Y.; and his six grandchildren, Claude and Curtis Bataille, Sean and Madeleine Gossard, and Kyra and Cierra Muldoon. He also is survived by his sister in-law, Celine Bataille, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In addition to his parents, Dr. Bataille was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Paul Bataille; and a sister, Carmen Bataille. Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday (6-6-15) in St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant. Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
