Jack Meyer Frank, 985 Hall Ave., Sharon, PA; formerly of New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully at 6:03 a.m. Thursday (2-19-09) in his residence, following a brief illness. He was 65.
Mr. Frank was born Feb. 12, 1944 in New Castle, PA a son of Perry and Ada Gillis Frank.
He was raised in New Castle and was a 1962 graduate of New Castle High School. Jack was accepted into the Navy School of Music while in high school and enlisted shortly after he graduated. He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Carrier Kearsarge. Jack attended the Navy Band School and played the tuba and base fiddle with the Navy Band in Washington D.C. and was also a member of the Navy's championship softball team. He served with the honor guard at the funeral for President John F. Kennedy.
Jack lived in Corpus Christi, Texas from 1966 to 1974 before moving to the Shenango Valley.
He was the station manager at the former BP Oil on N. Water Ave. in downtown Sharon for more than twenty years. He then worked in sales for Auto Zone, Sharon, for seven years, retiring in 2006. An avid bowler, Jack participated in leagues at Thornton Hall Bowling Lanes in Sharon and, while living in Texas, he and a friend won the Texas State Doubles Bowling Championship. Jack enjoyed going to flea markets; gambling at Mountaineer Park in West, Virginia and Atlantic City, NJ; and fishing.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Elaine B. Darlington of White Plains, NY, whom he married November 27, 1965; a daughter, Susan K. Frank, Sharon; a son, Jack Michael Frank, Pittsburgh; and a brother, Eugene Frank and his wife Joni, New Castle.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Health System Hospice Home Care, 740 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday (2-22-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday (2-23-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Nagle, pastor of Servants Heart Ministries, and the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph Church, both Sharon, officiating.
Interment: Committal service in the Buhl Chapel of Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, followed by military honor's rendered by the Sharon Honor Guard.
