J. Thomas "Tom" Minto of Clymer, Pa., (Indiana County), passed away peacefully at 12:07 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at his residence following a brief illness. He was 78. Tom was born in Buck Run, Pa., (Indiana County) on Aug. 4, 1937. He was one of 10 children born to Robert and Verda Mae Putt Minto. He worked for the former Wean Industries (Wean United) in Austintown, Ohio, and McKay Machine Co., Youngstown. In his early years, he had worked for what is now Musser Forests Inc., a garden center in Indiana County. Tom would often reminisce about working as a truck driver with his cousin George, transporting slag when he was younger. From an early age, Tom liked to help people whenever he could. In his adolescent years, he would wake up early to stoke the potbelly wood stove in the one-room schoolhouse that he attended. In his early years he liked fishing, camping and collecting Volkswagen cars to work on. He also collected classic 1947 to 1952 Chevy trucks that he loved to tinker with. He also raised goats, sheep and chickens that he loved dearly. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter Lauren. His wife, Donna J. Harper Minto, whom he married in April 1957, passed away in March 2007. He is survived by his son, Thomas Minto, with whom he made his home; a granddaughter, Lauren B. Nogay; a brother, Donald R. Minto and his wife, Willavene; and his four sisters, Virginia Covert, Sarah Benson and her husband, James, Twila Bogdan and her husband, Emanuel, and Barbara Hartman. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy J. Nogay; three sisters, Isabelle, Dorothy and Wilda; and one brother, Russell. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dennis Bupp officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery
