Irene S. Gagliardi, 398 Ellis Ave., Hermitage, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Thursday (12-10-09) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, following a period of failing health. She was 84.
Mrs. Gagliardi was born October 20, 1925 in Farrell the youngest daughter of the late Aloysis and Susan Geletka.
A lifelong area resident, she attended the former St. Ann's Parochial Grade School, Farrell, and was a 1944 graduate of Farrell High School.
Irene worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation during WW II and retired as a department head from the former Treasure Island Department Store, Hermitage, where she was employed for nineteen years.
A homemaker, she was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Earlier in her life, Irene belonged to the St. Ann's PTO and put on calendar tea's and shows to raise funds for the school.
She was a member of the Hermitage Woman's Club, the Knights of Columbus, Sharon Council 684 Auxiliary and belonged to the Topper's card club for 40 years.
Her husband of 58 years, Vincent James Gagliardi, whom she married October 31, 1944 in the former St. Ann's Church, Farrell, passed away December 19, 2002.
Surviving are: two sons, Richard V. Gagliardi and his wife Sharon, Masury; and James J. Gagliardi, Hermitage; a daughter, Karen J. Swanson, Hermitage; four grandchildren, Susan M. Price and her husband Raymond Price, Jr., Atlanta, GA; Anthony J. Gagliardi and his wife Melissa, Hubbard; and Diana L. Swanson and Kylie J. Swanson, both Hermitage; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Price, Cody Price, Claire Gagliardi and Anthony J. Gagliardi, II.
Besides her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by four sisters: Helen, Ann, Margaret and Mary.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday (12-15-09) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
