Irene J. DeBonis of Transfer passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, after an extended illness, in the home of her daughter where she resided for the past five years. She was 86.
Mrs. DeBonis was born April 28, 1930, in Sharpsville, a daughter of William and Alice (Boles) Ewing.
She attended Sharpsville High School and was a graduate of the former Wil Mar Beauty School, Sharon. Prior to her marriage, Irene was employed by Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio.
She married Perry R. DeBonis on July 21, 1958 and joined him in their family businesses, which included the Wheatland Grille; the former Town Café on Division St. in Sharon; Motel 62 in Jefferson Township; and Perry's Novelty and Advertising Company. Her husband, Perry, passed away December 10, 1987.
Irene was of the Methodist faith, however, supported her family's lifelong Catholic faith and their membership at St. Joseph Church, Sharon.
She is survived by: a daughter, Susan Combine and her husband James, with whom she made her home; four grandchildren, James Combine, Mercer; Alana Kendall and her husband Ray, Fredonia; Andrew Combine and his wife Haleigh, Pittsburgh; and Joseph Combine, Carnegie, PA; four great grandchildren, James and Zackary Combine; and Rayna and Charlee Kendall; a sister-in-law, Madeline DeBonis, Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by five sisters, Alice Lynn, Lillian Perry, Mary McNeelege, Marjorie Pollock and her twin sister, Geraldine Goodnight; five brothers, John, Adam, George, Lawrence and Francis Ewing; and a great granddaughter, Reese Kendall, a twin to Rayna.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016, in St. Rose Cemetery chapel, Hermitage, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, officiating.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
