Irene M. Cilas, formerly of George St. Ext. and Juniper Village, both Sharon, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Thursday (9-8-11) in Clepper Manor, Sharon, after an extended illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Cilas was born March 20, 1927 in Sharon a daughter of the late John and Margaret Vaczi Wolfinger.
She was a lifelong area resident and a 1945 graduate of Sharon High School.
Prior to raising her children, Irene worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation and, later in life, following the death of her husband, was employed by Clepper Manor.
Irene was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where she was a volunteer for its food pantry. She also volunteered for many years at what is now UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell. Irene enjoyed bowling in the Tuesday morning breakfast league at the former Hickory Bowl in Hermitage.
Her husband, John Cilas, whom she married April 17, 1948, passed away October 31, 1996.
Surviving are: a daughter, Patricia Dickson, Hermitage; a son, David Cilas and his wife Kristine, Transfer; four grandchildren, Adrienne Dickson, Charleston, W. VA; Bryan Dickson, Washington, D.C.; Josh Cilas and his wife Stacy, Saegertown, PA; and Samantha Cilas, Pittsburgh; and three great grandchildren, Brandon, Evelyn and Decker.
Besides her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Paul Wolfinger; and a sister, Agnes Greene.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Food Pantry, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
