Obituary

Ira Wayne "Flam" Flamberg, M.D. , Whispering Oaks, Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully Wednesday (11-4-15) at 11:00 p.m. at his residence. He was 97. He was born June 13, 1918, in New York, NY. Ira was one of three children born to Ralph and Elsie Waldman Flamberg. He was raised in New York and graduated from Bay Shore High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and later studied at New York University where he received his professional degree as a Doctor of Medicine. He played on both the collegiate tennis and polo teams while at Cornell. Dr. Flamberg was formerly the director of the anesthesiology department at what is now Sharon Regional Health System from 1949 to 1986. During his tenure, he also served as chief of staff. He later was an anesthesiologist consultant with several local hospital systems including Greenville, Grove City, and the Veterans Administration in Butler. He was also an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School for several years. Dr. Flamberg served as past President for the Mercer County Medical Society and the Sharon University Club. He was also a diplomate of both the International Anesthesia Research Society and American College of Anesthesiologists. He served at one time as the medical director at the Protected Homelife Insurance Company, Sharon. A decorated veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 57th field hospital in the European theater of operations. He reached the rank of Captain and was honorably discharged with several medals and citations. As a civilian, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sharon Country Club, and the American Legion. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sharon. In his spare time, he enjoyed a round of golf, tending to his garden, cooking, history and a good game of bridge. On August 8, 1943, he and Olive Ruth MacDaniel were married. She passed away in 1999. In July 2000, he married Betty Kile Molnar who passed away January 1, 2010. Surviving are: one daughter, Candace E. Aiken, Great Falls, MT; one son, David W. Flamberg, Alta Loma, CA; a brother Bert (Marilyn) Flamberg, Sherman Oaks, CA; four grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Flamberg, Alta Loma, CA, Stephanie Flamberg, Plain City, OH, Kimberly (Jon) Moog, Helena, MT, and Andrea (Mike) McLeavy, Meridian, ID; four great grandchildren; four step children (Richard, Thomas, Jane, and John); and nine step grandchildren. In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by his sister, Meta Cooper, Willow Grove, PA. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 600 East State Street, Sharon, or to the Buhl Farm Park Corp., 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148. Calling hours: There will be no calling hours. Services: A memorial service will be held December 5th, 2015 (Saturday) at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Sharon with Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Hink, pastor officiating.
