Herbert R. Romelfanger, Masury, Ohio, passed away at 1:17 a.m. Sunday (12-4-11) in the emergency room of the Sharon Regional Health system, after a brief period of failing health. He was 85.
Mr. Romelfanger was born October 8, 1926 in Sharon a son of the late Herbert and Anna Romelfanger.
He attended Sharon High School and earned a bachelors degree in English from Youngstown State University in 1944.
He served with the US Army Air Force and was stationed in Japan. Herb was employed as a tow truck driver, and later in customer service, at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he was employed for 25 years and known to many as 'Red'. He also taught English and coached football at Brookfield High School for a year and was part owner of the former MRS Urethane, Brookfield. Herb retired from General American Transportation Corporations former Masury plant after ten years of service. He was a lifelong member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. Herb was an avid reader and followed the stock market closely, particularly the value of gold. He was a former member of the fraternal Order of the Eagles, Sharon.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, the former Anna Delores Mustake, whom he married January 18, 1951. He also leaves four sisters-in-law, Yvonne Rinda, Cortland, Ohio; Sally Calvin, Masury; Mary Ann Mustake, Masury; and Norma Mustake, Lisbon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved as though they were his own children. He and his wife were God parents to seven of them.
Besides his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Romelfanger; an uncle, Matt McGinnis who helped raise him; and four brothers-in-law, Pete and Charles Mustake; Lloyd Calvin; and Sanford Rinda.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Church of the Sacred Heart, 40 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday (12-8-11) in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, with the Rev. Henry Andrae, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
