Obituary

Henry M. "Hank" Dykes, 93, a longtime resident of Lyons, GA passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, July 22, 2024, at his daughter's home in Sharpsville, PA.

Mr. Dykes was born December 26, 1930, in Charlotteville, GA, a son of the late Henry M. Dykes, Sr. and Letha C. (McCallum) Dykes.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Hank served as Boatswain's Mate for four years during the Korean Era, followed by four additional years in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

In 1993, he retired from the shipping department of WCI Steel, Warren, OH, previously Republic Steel, where he worked for 42 years.
Hank was of the Christian faith.

During retirement, he returned to his roots in Lyons, GA, and for the next 30 years enjoyed spending the majority of his time tending to his land farming, gardening, canning, and making cane syrup. Hank also enjoyed being outdoors birdwatching and fishing. He always looked forward to spending time with his family, especially while vacationing or during their many visits. Hank loved to share stories of his childhood days of farming, service in the Navy, and long days working at the steel mill.

His wife of 38 years, the former Linda Denty, whom he married in 1984, preceded him in death on December 19, 2022.

Hank is survived by a daughter, Lisa Hoodin (Bill), Sharpsville, PA; a stepdaughter, Patricia Rozycki, Mt. Pleasant, PA; a stepson, Jack Lough (Patty), Cortland, OH; a sister, Ruby Carrol, Brunswick, GA; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special cousin, Susan Booth, who has been a tremendous blessing.
