Obituary

Henry F. Bodnar, 1565 Orangeville Rd., Hermitage, PA passed away unexpectedly at 4:20 a.m. Sunday (6-27-10) in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell. He was 82.

Mr. Bodnar was born November 20, 1927 in Slickville, PA a son of the late Frank and Mildred Dobroski Bodnar.

He attended school in Burgettstown, PA and moved to the area in 1951.

Hank, as many knew him was a barber in Sharpsville for twenty years, working along side his uncle, John 'Slim' Dominski. He then worked at the former General American Transportation Corporation, Masury, for twenty-four years, until the plant closed in the 1980's; and then as an independent handyman for ten years.

Henry served with the US Army during WW II and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 6404 Sharpsville; and the American Legion, Post 299, Sharon. He was also a member of the Hickory VFW, Post 6166, Hermitage and was a volunteer at its golf course. Earlier in his life, Henry was active in the Patagonia Little League as an officer and umpire. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing (particularly the many trips to Canada) and golfing, which he took up later in life. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting and scholastic events. He was affectionately known as 'Grumpa' by his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all of them.

His wife, the former Marcella 'Marcie' Smith, whom he married January 24, 1958, passed away September 7, 2000.

Surviving are: three daughters, Diane Daly and her husband Frank, Hubbard, Ohio; Cindy Bodnar, Hermitage; and Susan Tablack and her husband George, Boardman, Ohio; a son, Michael Bodnar and his wife Chris, Greenville, PA; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Jared, Mikey and Anthony; a sister, Mae Sweder, Burgettstown, PA; four brothers, twins, Rich Bodnar and his wife Joan; and Rudy Bodnar and his wife Judy, all Brookfield, Ohio; Bob Bodnar and his wife Pat, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Jerry Bodnar and his wife Gert, Vincentown, NJ; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Henry was preceded in death by a sister, Delores 'Tootsie' Bodnar.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Buhl Farm Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday (7-1-10) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
