Obituary

Henrietta Sarazen Dill, formerly of Farrell, passed away of natural causes at 3:20 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2016, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, where she was a resident for more than seven years. She was 97.

Henrietta was born March 30, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of John and Victoria (Szymczyk) Kuharski.

She was a 1937 graduate of South High School, Youngstown, and moved to the Shenango Valley following her marriage to Walter Sarazen in the 1940's.

For the war effort, Henrietta was employed in the former Tank Shop in Farrell during WW II.

She then worked as a waitress at The Tavern in New Wilmington and the former Eagle Grille in Farrell. She retired as head waitress from the Shenango Inn in Sharon where she was employed for 30 years.

Henrietta was a longtime active member of St. Adalbert Church, Farrell, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and the Family Club.

She was an exceptional cook and also made pierogi's at the church for many years.

An avid bowler, she was a member of various leagues at Sunset Lanes, Farrell, and was a member of the Polish National Alliance (PNA).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Sarazen, in 1971; and her second husband, Earl Dill in 2002.

Surviving are: a son, Gene Sarazen and his wife Donna, Sharon; two grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Ryan Sarazen, Chevy Chase, MD; and Michele Sarazen, Berkeley, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry Sarazen, who passed away in 2003; a brother, Pete Kuharski; and six sisters, Mary Gorski Mardon, Anna Dubiel Horney, Sophie Gorski, Louise Chec, Helen Koshar and Josephine DeSanti.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 , in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.


Funeral Mass will be noon Saturday, August 13, 2016, in St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell, with Rev. Joseph Campbell, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
