Helen M. Zagger Thomas of 1338 Ritchie Rd. Stow, OH, formerly of Griswold St. Hermitage, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 11:45 p.m. in Akron City Hospital. She was 86.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Sharon, PA on February 1, 1924, a daughter of Martin and Helen Schnur Zagger.
She was a 1942 graduate of Sharon High School and an Alumni of St. Joseph's Elementary School. Following high school, Helen completed a course in photography at Youngstown College, and received certification as a licensed beautician from Artistic Beauty School.
Helen owned a beauty shop in her home for many years. She also was a licensed teacher of Beauty Culture and taught at Artistic Beauty School for several years. Earlier in life she worked in the display department of the former Sharon Store for six years.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Church of Notre Dame and formerly a member of St. Joseph's Church. Helen also enjoyed decorating cakes and specialized in multi-tiered wedding cakes, also she studied in oil painting from George Christy. She loved animals, but most importantly she was a loving wife and mother.
Her husband William C. Thomas, whom she married May 28, 1949, passed away on October 20, 2007.
She is survived by, 2 sons, Richard and his wife Kathy Thomas of Tiffin, OH, and Timothy Thomas of Stow, OH; a granddaughter, Joei and her husband John Aragon of California; 2 great granddaughters, Jordyn and Jessie Aragon.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Robert C. Thomas; a brother, James F. Zagger.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2010 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Notre Dame, with Monsignor Edward J. Zeitler, senior associate pastor, as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to leaving for church.
Internment will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
