Sinkus
July 25, 1927 – June 14, 2023
Helen Sinkus, 95, formerly of Hermitage, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Sinkus was born on July 25, 1927, in Sharpsville, a daughter of John and Helen (Dirgo) Banas. She attended Sharpsville and Farrell School Districts. During WWII, she made ice cream at the former Mott Robertson's Ice Cream in Sharon.
Her husband, Edward J. Sinkus, whom she married on November 5, 1949, passed away on September 15, 1988.
Helen and her husband were founding members of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where she assisted with funeral luncheons and served on the Altar Rosary Society.
A dedicated homemaker, she was also employed at the former Treasure Island, the City Directory, Census Bureau, and the former Hill's Department Store. Helen ultimately retired from the Sharon Herald.
She was extremely family oriented and loved spending time with her grandchildren and sisters. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and making crafts.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet (John) Horgos, West Middlesex; three sons, Robert (Dina) Sinkus, Irvine, CA, David (Bonnie Perry) Sinkus, Greenville, and Richard (Jean) Sinkus, Hermitage; four grandchildren, David Sinkus, Melinda O'Neill, and Jessica and Jared Horgos; one great-grandson, Liam O'Neill; and a sister, Margie (Al) Giambattista, Youngstown, OH.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward Sinkus; three sisters, Mary Serafin, Ann Ondich and Sue Sulick; and two brothers, John and Michael Banas.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to an animal shelter of the donor's choice.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon, Monday, in the church, with Rev. Richard Allen, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
