Obituary

Helen E. (Ritter) Nogay,93, of Hermitage, passed away on March 29th, 2023, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.

Helen was born on July 23rd, 1929, in Youngstown, OH, the daughter of the late Stewart and Susan (Duffy) Ritter. While living in Youngstown, she worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a nurse's aide.

In 1949 Helen met Ted, the love of her life, when they were partnered together at their friend's wedding. Helen and Ted married on October 10, 1953, at the former St. Ann's Catholic Church in Youngstown, OH. Together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage and had two children, Ted Jr. and Theresa.

Helen was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. Throughout her life she served her faith as the longtime President of the St. Adalbert Infant of Prague Guild; a member of the Altar Rosary Society; belonged to the Blue Army of Mercer County and helped St. Adalbert's when making pierogi. She also enjoyed being able to attend a few religious pilgrimages and shrines including being able to see St. John Paul in Toronto which was very special to her because of her husband's Polish heritage. She was also an avid EWTN watcher and made sure to watch the Masses and Rosary when she was unable to attend Mass.

Helen enjoyed crocheting and making blankets for nursing homes.

Her family was the central theme of her life and was always forethought of her "Love and Prayers."

She is survived by her son, Ted Nogay, Jr.; and her three beautiful granddaughters: Sarah (Matt) Brennan, Kent, OH, Maria (Wayne) Schrock, Irwin, PA, and Olivia Nogay, Gibsonia, PA.

As well as two great-granddaughters, Audrey and Amelia Brennan; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Nogay Sr., her daughter, Theresa Funelli; her daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Nogay; three sisters and their husbands, Pauline (William) Weimer, Gladys (John) Buksar, and Dorothy (William) Fox; three brothers and their wives, Thomas (Marge), Paul (Agnes), and William (Louise) Ritter; as well as some nieces and nephews.

Helen would like to thank her special family; The Blue Army Ladies, her very good neighbors, and her special Godchild, Janie Metz, and her niece, Darlene Yacobony. Additionally, the family would like to thank St. John XXIII Home, for providing care and comfort.
