Helen Kartalis, Kensington Care Center, Aurora, OH, formerly of Beachwood Ave., Farrell, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 6:59 a.m. Saturday (3-12-11) in the care center. She was 99.
Mrs. Kartalis was born October 17, 1911 in Rhodes, Greece, the daughter of Savas and Athena Skouloukas Anthou. She immigrated to the United States in 1931 at the age of 20.
She was a homemaker and a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell, PA.
Her husband, George Kartalis whom she married in 1931, passed away February 16, 1989.
She is survived by two sons, Andrew Kartalis and his wife, Katherine, Pepper Pike , OH and Sam Kartalis and his wife Rosie, Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Bowers, Elaine Murphy, Angelique Berry and Elena Caspar; ten great grandchildren, David and Katy Berry, Joseph, Andrew, Katy and Henry Caspar, Michael , Mathew, and Jack and James Murphy .
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Smaragdi, Paraskevi and Margaret and two brothers, Emanuel and James.
The family suggests memorial contribution may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 Washington St., Farrell PA 16121, or to the caring people at Crossroads Hospice 3743 Boettler Dr. Suite E Green, OH 44685.
Calling hours: 10:30 until the time of service on Tuesday (3-15-11) in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Services: A funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday (3-5-11) in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell.
Arrangements are being handled by the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St .Sharon.
Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
