Obituary

Helen Agnes Hlumyk, 96, a longtime resident of West Middlesex passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2024, in The Grove at New Wilmington.

Mrs. Hlumyk was born June 16, 1927, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Walter and Anastasia (Pawaski) Dolata.

During WWII, Helen served her part as a "Rosie the Riveter" by working at the former Sharon Transformer Div. of Westinghouse Electric Corp. producing various essential materials for the military.

A homemaker, she enjoyed spending time in her flower garden and listening to music, especially polka.

Helen was a longtime member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Farrell.

Her husband of 32 years, John Hlumyk, whom she married May 24, 1952, preceded her in death January 20, 1985.

Helen is survived by her son, John T. Hlumyk (Rae Ann), West Middlesex; five grandchildren, Kristin, Nicole, Lauren, Alexander, and Anastasia; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emily; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Marie Shingledecker; an infant son, John Paul Hlumyk; three sisters, Ann, Violet, and Cecilia; and four brothers, John, Stanley, Leo, and Walter.
