Hazel Mae Blews Bissell, 219 N. Beaver St., New Castle, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at her residence at 6:07 p.m. on Thursday (9-22-11) following an extended illness. She was 57.
Hazel was born on September 30, 1953 in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of Richard C. and Catherine Bluedorn Blews.
A lifelong city resident, she graduated from New Castle High School in 1971. She also studied Medical Billing and Transcription at the Erie Business Center, New Castle.
Hazel was a familiar face at Jameson hospital where she worked in Registration for several years.
She enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, making crafts, spending time with family, and simply taking walks with her dog Max.
She is survived at home by her husband Michael Bissell whom she married on May 30, 1996. Also surviving are her two sons, James M. Blews and his wife Deborha Hill, and Richard Blews and his wife Amber, 5 grandchildren, Tana and Damien Blews, and Christian, Xavier, and Zachariah Blews, a sister Ruth A. Gallick and her husband John, and a sister in law Belva Blews, all of New Castle. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Richard James Blews.
