Obituary

Harry William Swartz, Sr., 88 Stone Ridge Blvd.; formerly of N. Darby Rd., both Hermitage, PA passed away at 4:50 p.m. Saturday (1-15-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness. He was 77.

Mr. Swartz was born November 8, 1933 in Sharpsville, PA a son of Orlo P. and Kathryn Gibbons Swartz.

He was a 1951 graduate of Sharon High School and served with the U.S. Marine Corps. 'Hap', as he was known by many, worked for a brief period of time at the Erie Rail Road before embarking on a career with AT&T. He was employed as a Communication Specialist from 1956 to 1984 in the Shenango Valley before moving to Silver Spring, MD where he became the National Service Manager for the U.S. Congress until 1989. He then worked as a Communications Management Specialist for the General Services Administration in Vienna, VA before retiring on December 31, 1995. He and his wife returned to their N. Darby Rd. home in 1996 and later moved to Stone Ridge. Hap was an active member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, where he was an usher and previously belonged to the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD. Years earlier, he enjoyed softball and was an avid golfer.

A devoted husband and father he is survived by: his wife, the former Rose Marie Revale, whom he married November 13, 1954 in Church of the Sacred Heart; three sons, Harry William Swartz, Jr., at home; Louis Michael Swartz and his wife Mary, Hermitage; and Paul John Swartz and his wife April, Las Vegas, NV; a grandson, Lucca Christian Swartz, Las Vegas; a step-granddaughter, Katie Williams, Hermitage; two sisters, Jean Volansky, Sharon; and Peg Cione and her husband Bob, Hermitage; a brother, George Swartz, Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.

Hap was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his memory to Church of the Sacred Heart, 40 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday (1-19-11) in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (1-19-11) in the church with the Rev. Henry Andrae, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
