Harry E. "Gus" Snyder of Pierce Avenue, Sharpsville, passed away at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 76. Mr. Snyder was born June 21, 1936, in Masury, a son of Ernest and Elizabeth Patterson Snyder. A lifelong area resident, he attended Hickory High School and served with the Army. He and his brother owned and operated the former Snyder Brothers Texaco Station on Sharpsville Avenue in Sharon. Gus was a cement truck driver for more than 25 years for various companies and retired from Sidley Concrete in 1998. Following his retirement, he was employed for 15 years at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage. Gus was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and a former member of its choir. He enjoyed golfing and was a former member of a bowling league. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing years earlier. His wife, the former Joanne J. Palo, whom he married Sept. 13, 1958, passed away Oct. 26, 2003. Surviving are: a daughter, Cindy Burns and her husband Michael, Sharpsville; three sisters, Eva Rabold, Hermitage; Rosemarie Lambert and her husband Ray, California; and Gloria Sakony and her husband Frank, Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Mary Snyder; a brother- and sister-in-law, Ward and Margaret Lewis; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Palo, all Sharpsville; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Gus was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ernestine Kowacich; and two brothers, George Snyder and Ernest Snyder.
