Obituary

Harry P. Leftheris, 74, of Masury, OH, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 25, 2018, in his residence.

Mr. Leftheris was born August 12, 1944, in Sharon, a son of the late Pete and Stella (Kariotis) Leftheris. After attending Sharon High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Harry served during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Germany and France.

He was employed by Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant for 26 and a half years, retiring as a member of the shipping department in 1992.

During his retirement, Harry owned and operated Leftheris Tavern in Masury, OH, for more than 20 years. He previously owned the Leftheris Tavern on Sharpsville Ave, Sharon, as well as being a partial owner in several other family operated establishments.

Harry was of the Greek Orthodox faith.

He was a member of the Croatian Club, New Deal Club, and Slovak Home, all Farrell; the Slovenian Home in Sharon; and the VFW, Post 3307, Youngstown, OH.

Harry was a man's man. A man of grit who was bigger than life. He was proud of hard work and loved his country, children, grandchildren and the freedom found on his motorcycle.  Only a select few knew the gentle, sweet man behind his rough and tough exterior.  Our family thanks God for taking him home at the right time, preserving his honor.  Our tears are for the memories of a very special man.

Surviving are: four daughters, Stellie (Edward) Wetzel, Cochranton, PA, Phileea (Kevin) Cameron, Mercer, Jamie (Ron) McKalip, Cochranton, and Katrina (Leonard) McCullough, Conneaut Lake, PA, a son, Stephen Ayers and his fiancé, Hayle Allison, Champion, OH; his former spouse, Colleen Matthews, Farrell; two sisters, Katherine Mesogitis and Tula Hardesty, both Hermitage; two brothers, Nick Leftheris, Sharon, and Pete Leftheris, Jr.; and 11 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by an infant brother, Nicholas Leftheris.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon (10-29-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Full military honors will be rendered at noon Monday, in the funeral home, by the Wheatland American Legion, Farrell VFW and West Middlesex VFW honor guard.
