Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday for Harry T. Grande, Farrell, who passed away at 1:38 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Youngstown. He was surrounded and supported by his family throughout his extended hospital stay. He was 81. Harry was born June 12, 1933, in New Castle, to Joseph and Irissa (Daltorio) Grande. He graduated from Farrell High School in 1951 and proudly served in the Air Force for four years, receiving an honorable discharge. He worked as a draftsman at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 30 years and retired in 1985. Harry was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Parish, Farrell, and served as treasurer of The Holy Name Society for many years. He was a member of the former Farrell Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Columbus 4th degree, Sharon Assembly. His first wife, the former Patricia Stone, passed away in 1965. He married the former Janice Zelch on Nov. 5, 1966; together they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary last fall. He and his wife Janice raised five children and were blessed with 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Harry was a quiet and gentle man, who valued his family and his faith, and was much more comfortable serving others than being recognized for his contributions. He loved to cook and enjoyed large family meals and get-togethers. When he was younger, Harry enjoyed bowling and playing golf with friends, and, in his later years, he enjoyed keeping in touch with his former colleagues at regular breakfast outings. He is survived by: his loving wife, Janice, and his children: Tom Grande and his wife, Julie, Akron; Tony Grande and his wife, Lisa, Hubbard; Trisha Grande Meade and her husband, Mark, Richmond, Va.; Lisa (Grande) Monti and her husband, John, Erie; and David Grande and his wife, Kirsten, Sharon. Harry will be missed by his "Grande"-children: Jeremy, Maria, Madeline, Nathan, Brianna, Marissa, Andrew, Justin, Olivia, Emily and Ally; by his great-grandson, Jeremy Jr.; and by his sisters-in law, Peg Lengyl, Frederick, Md., and Mickie Gligor, and her husband, Nick, and son, Nicholas, Sharon. In addition to his first wife, Harry was preceded in death by: his parents; his brothers, Fred Grande and Bill Grande; and an infant son, Stephen. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in his memory to please consider Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Parish, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, PA 16121. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (3-12-15) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., prior to calling hours.
