Harry J. Burkhart of 71 N. Crescent Dr., Hermitage, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning (1-09-10) in his home with his loving and devoted wife by his side. He was 80.
Mr. Burkhart was born August 11, 1929 in Sewickley, PA the only child of Harry and Julu Burkhart.
He attended schools in Ambridge and Sharon.
Following high school he served in the US Army for two years and the National Guard for three years.
'Herk', as most people knew him, retired as a mill operator in 1991 from the former Sawhill Tubular Products-Division of Cyclops, Sharon, where he was employed for 42 years.
He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon. Mr. Burkhart was an avid and devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steeler's and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved spending time with his wife and family; and for many years enjoyed bowling, golfing and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was a member of the Sawhill Tubular Retiree's Association and the Hickory VFW, Post # 6166, Hermitage.
Surviving is his wife at home, the former Patricia R. Webb, whom he married on his birthday, August 11, 1951, in the First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, and the two were happily married for 58 years. He also leaves a son, Richard Burkhart and his wife Donna, Orwell, Ohio; two daughters, Barbara Alfredo and her husband David, Medina, Ohio; and Connie Sirak, Boardman, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Brooke Sample and her husband Rich Quinn, Edgewater, NJ; Maria Drogell and her husband Brian, Medina, Ohio; Bryan Alfredo and his wife Lisa, Streetsboro, Ohio; Alison Burkhart, Bowling Green, Ohio; Andrea Burkhart, Painsville, Ohio; and twins, Brittany and Lauren Sirak, both Boardman, Ohio.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday (1-12-10) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
