Obituary

Harry Clifford Blake, Lackawannock Township, formerly a longtime resident of Easton Rd., Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 89.

Mr. Blake was born October 20, 1922 in New Wilmington, PA a son of the late Harry L. and Theda Buchanan Blake.

He moved to Fredonia as an infant and was a 1941 graduate of the former Fredonia Institute. Following high school, Cliff worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation for a brief period before serving with the US Navy for three years aboard the USS Boise during WW II. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Westinghouse and retired in 1985 with more than 42 years of service as a machinist.

Cliff was a longtime member and former office holder at the Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage. He was a member of the Hickory VFW, Post 6166, Hermitage, where he played euchre on Monday nights until April of this year. A Free and Accepted Mason, he was a member of Lodge 810, Hermitage, and the Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory. Cliff enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and had a green house for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending time at his camp in Elk County.

Surviving are: his wife of nearly 60 years, the former Elva Grace Shiderly, whom he married August 8, 1952 in Covenant United Presbyterian Church, Sharon; two daughters, Debra L. Mausser and her husband Gerald, Sharon; and Bonnie R. Tate and her husband David, Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Hermitage; three grandchildren whom he enjoyed attending their scholastic and athletic events, Eric Mausser and his wife Jennifer, Pittsburgh; Emily Mausser and Melissa Tate, both Georgia; two step grandsons, David Tate and his wife Jennifer, Ohio; and Eric Tate, Connecticut; a great granddaughter, Addison Mausser, Pittsburgh; three step great grandchildren, Colin and Cameron Tate, both Connecticut; and Kennedy Tate, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Lois Black, Michigan.

Besides his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Howard Blake; and a sister, Betty Blake.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Hospice Home Care, 2320 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Calling hour will be from noon to time of service Sunday, July 29, 2012, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. David Evans, pastor of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage, officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Hickory VFW Honor Guard prior to the service.
