Obituary

Harry E. "Buff" Baxter III, 74, of New Castle, passed away Thursday evening, September 5, 2024, in his residence.

Mr. Baxter was born December 14, 1949, in New Castle, a son of the late Harry E. Baxter II and Marjorie P. (Kelly) Baxter and was a 1967 graduate of New Castle High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

He was of the Christian faith.

For 22 years, Buff worked as a machine operator for Rockwell International's Axel Division, New Castle. He also worked in the shipping and receiving department for Kasgro Rail Corporation and as a delivery driver for Hometown Pharmacy.

An avid sports fan, Buff was very active in coaching his children's athletic teams and assisted with the North Hill boosters. He also participated as a coach for the CYO and St. Mary's basketball teams and belonged to the KP golf league at the former Mohawk Trails Golf Course.

Above all, he was a family man. He loved his grandchildren and took any chance he had to share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.

On October 9, 1970, he married the former Mary "Sis" Boyd, who survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Patrick Daniel Baxter (Melissa), Pitcairn, PA, Justun Boyd Baxter (Natalie), Irmo, SC, and Michael Joseph Baxter (Megan), Longwood, FL; a daughter, Milissa Marie Roper (John), Pulaski; a brother, Tom Baxter, New Castle; a sister, Mary Ann Medved, New Castle; and five grandchildren, Dylan, Donovan, Braydon, Jack, and Max.

Buff was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jimmy and Billy Baxter.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Monday (9-9-24) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

Military honors will be rendered prior to the memorial service by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. in the funeral home, with family friend, John Rossi, officiating.
