Harold Vincent "Rick" Reichard, Sr. of Hermitage, formerly of Hartford, Ohio, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, in the transitional care unit of Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness. He was 92.
Mr. Reichard was born October 9, 1924, in Sharon, a son of Ralph B. and Frances Wiesen Reichard. He attended the former St. Joseph Parochial Grade School in Sharon and Sharon High School.
A decorated war veteran, Rick served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic in the European Theatre during WW II.
He married the former Ruth LeCompte on August 7, 1948 in St. Mary of the Lake Church, Lakewood, NJ. He and his wife were antique dealers for many years and owned and operated H & R Antiques in Hartford, Ohio where they lived on a small farm for 45 years before moving to Hermitage in 2002. They promoted antique shows under "Yankee Promotions," most notably at Yankee Lake, Ohio and Lake County (Ohio) Fairgrounds.
Rick was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where he volunteered for more than twenty years in the food pantry, which he helped start. He was also on the church building committee and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels at Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon.
Rick was employed for more than 40 years as a sheet metal mechanic with Local # 5, Youngstown, Ohio. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking and antiquing.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth, at the residence; four daughters, Teresa Wolford, wife of Thomas, Kinsman, Ohio; Carol Reichard, Hermitage; and Debra Grace and Susan Reichard, both in Florida; 4 grandchildren, Christina Saunders, wife of Kenneth, Sr., Austintown, Ohio; Jennifer Partlow, wife of Donald, Jr., North Carolina; Michael Wolford, husband of Tabatha, Cortland, Ohio; and Jacob Dillon, Hermitage; eight great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Mellish, who passed away in 1973; a son, Harold "Rick" Reichard, Jr., who passed away in 2001; a sister, Evelyn Klaser Rosche; and a brother, Ralph J. Reichard.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Food Pantry, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon, and one hour before the Mass on Thursday, December 29, 2016, in St. Joseph Church, Sharon.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
