Obituary

Harold W. McMath of New Castle, formerly of Sunset Beach, N.C., and the Shenango Valley, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015, in his residence, with his family at his side after an extended illness. He was 80 years old and enjoyed a full life of family time, camping, racquetball, riding his BMW motorcycle and wood working. Mr. McMath was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Sharpsville, a son of Simon and Clara Starr McMath. A 1953 alumnus of Sharpsville High School, he served with the Air Force for four years and was a 1961 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa. Harold returned to Sharon in the mid-1960s and was employed at the former Sharon Steel's Farrell plant. He retired in 1992 from George Junior Republic, Grove City, where he had worked for 23 years, and moved to sunny North Carolina. He was a member and usher of St. Brendan's Catholic Church, South Brunswick, N.C.; and a former member of St. Stanislaus Kostka-Holy Trinity Church, Sharon. Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Steines, whom he married Aug. 26, 1967; four sons, Tom McMath and his wife Chrissy, Sharpsville; Elmer "Al" Reiter and his wife Linda, Sharon; David McMath and his wife Georgia, Sharpsville; and Kenneth Reiter and his wife Debra, Plano, Texas; three daughters, Lorene Bok and her husband Gary, New Castle; Linda Rice and her husband Jim, West Middlesex; and Tina Roch and her wife Barbara Livingston, Sharpsville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Herrmann, Sharpsville; a brotherin- law, Jerry Steines and his wife, Kathy, Beaver Falls; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a grandson, Todd Reiter. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka-Holy Trinity Church, 370 Spruce Ave., Sharon, PA 16146. Calling hours: None.
