Harold "Tubby" Johnson, 78, of New Castle passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 02, 2025.
Mr. Johnson was born May 23, 1946, in New Castle, a son of the late Ned and Frances Emma (Boyd) Johnson. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from New Castle High School in 1964.
Tubby was a member of Labor Union 964, New Castle, and worked as a construction laborer and foreman. He retired in 1998 from F Ivan Law of Youngstown, OH.
Tubby was a friendly soul that had a big laugh capable of brightening anyone's day. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Brother Johnson was an established member of Lawrence Lodge 18, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, New Castle - one of the oldest lodges in the United States.
Tubby is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 35 years, Vista (King) Johnson; four children, Troy L. Johnson (Dominique), Tyanne Adams, and Chastity King (Corey), all of New Castle, and Jon King (Brandi), of Myrtle Beach, SC; 19 grandchildren, Tariq Johnson, Allahna Johnson, Troy L. Johnson, Jr., Ahlijah Johnson, Talib Johnson, Iziah Naugle, Aliyah Naugle, Ariyah Naugle, Mikaela Adams, Stephen Adams, Shayla Booker, Jeremiah Booker, Sarah Booker, Elise Booker, Elijah Booker, Jabari Lee, Telayna King, Telaysha King, Jon King Jr.; several great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Frank Johnson (Rochelle) and Marvin Johnson, all of New Castle, and three sisters, Frances Hunter, of Pulaski; and Charlotte Razo and Stephanie Bell (Duwayne), all of New Castle.
In addition to his parents, Tubby was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Terry and John Johnson, and two sisters, Sara Rucker and Grace Basham.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
A Home Going Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Keith Burley of Whole Truth Ministry, as officiant and eulogist.
The service will be available via livestream at Harold's Home Going Celebration
Interment: Oak Park Cemetery, Neshannock Twp.
