H. Carol Mortimer of Sharon passed away at 7:15 a.m. Sunday (3-22-15) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 72. Mrs. Mortimer was born April 10, 1942, in Youngstown, a daughter of Harold and Twila Sowash Maloney. She was raised in Youngstown and graduated from Youngstown schools. In her earlier years, she was employed as a waitress at the former Dinner Bell Restaurant and Sharon Hot Dog Shop, both in downtown Sharon. She also was a clerk and cashier for the former Hill's Department Store, Hermitage; and Standard Market convenience store, Wheatland. She loved to play bingo and work puzzle books and also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Carol lived in Sharon's Riverview Manor, where she enjoyed organizing social activities and bringing people together. Her husband, William "Bill" C. Mortimer Sr., whom she married Nov. 27, 1963, passed away Feb. 22, 2007. She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Kowalski and her husband Charles, Sharon; and Dorothy "Dottie" Myers and her husband Ronald Myers Jr., Hermitage; a son, William C. Mortimer Jr., Farrell; and four grandchildren, whom she affectionately called "Grandma's Angels," Hallie and Branden Myers, Jacob Mortimer and Abbey Kowalski. She leaves a brother, Ronald Maloney, Sharon; and a stepsister, Clara Gregg and her husband David, Sharon. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Robert Maloney.
