Obituary

Grace 'Dolly' Gilliland, 1096 Park St., Sharon, passed away of natural causes at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday (7-13-10) in Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, Sharon. She was 88.

Mrs. Gilliland was born November 17, 1921 in Farrell a daughter of the late John and Jennie Chieffalo Salatino.

A lifelong area resident, she was a 1939 graduate of Farrell High School.

Dolly retired in 1983 as a spec-clerk from the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where she was employed for 15 years.

She was a homemaker and an active member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon, where she was a member of the Ladies of Charity and served as an usher for many years. A devout catholic, Dolly was a volunteer at the Prince of Peace Center in Farrell for many years and a 25 year Secular Franciscan of the Holy Spirit Fraternity. An avid walker for thirty years, she was a charter member of the Mall Walkers Club and could also be found walking in Buhl Park during the summer months. Besides her faith, Dolly's family and community were most important to her. She was a fabulous cook and loved living in the Shenango Valley.

Her first husband of twenty years, Edward Kozienski, passed away in 1966. Her second husband, William Gilliland, whom she married October 27, 1970, passed away June 6, 1989.

Surviving are: a daughter, Heather May Schaller and her husband Joseph, Sharon; three grandsons, Edward Hassel and Scott Hassel, both Atlanta, Georgia; and Shaun Hassel, Portland, Oregon; three granddaughters, Melissa May, Folsom, California; Amanda May, Valencia, California; and Georgeina Schaller, Thousand Oaks, California; a step-grandson, Ryan Brogan, Orlando, Florida; a brother, Arthur Salatino, Sharon; several nieces and nephews, including Patricia Ficcaglia, Pittsburgh; two sisters-in-law, Doris Salatino, Sharon; and Lenore Salatino, John XXIII Home in Hermitage; and two former sons-in-law, Robert Hassel, St. Augustine, Florida; and Terrence Brogan, Orlando, Florida.

Besides her parents and husbands, Dolly was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hassel Brogan; three sisters, Mary Perry, Esther Salatino and Janet Ficcaglia; six brothers, Peter Salatine and Joseph, Anthony, Albert, Alfred and Patsy Salatino; and a son-in-law, Dennis May.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 370 Spruce Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday (7-15-10) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday (7-16-10) in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Stanley Swacha, pastor, as celebrant.
