Glenn Edward "Sonny" Bacon, formerly of Maple Way, Sharon, passed away at
8:17 p.m.
Friday
(May 19, 2017) in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage, where he was a resident for the past seven years. He was 85.
Mr. Bacon was born September 19, 1931, in Sharon, a son of Glenn Ernest and Blanche Pauline (Palmer) Bacon. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1949 graduate of Farrell High School. Sonny retired as a crane man in 1992 from the former Shenango, Inc., Sharpsville, where he was employed for 44 years. He was a lifelong member of the United Steelworkers, Local # 1032; and a member of the Shenango Valley Coin Club. Sonny attended the Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Hermitage; and formerly attended the Sharon Church of the Nazarene. During retirement, he and his wife loved wintering in Florida. Sonny enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, putting puzzles together and spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he affectionately nicknamed each and every one. Sonny was very handy at repairing most anything and enjoyed helping others with their projects.
His wife of 60 years, the former Irene Blanche Mikis, whom he married June 30, 1951, passed away January 11, 2012.
Surviving are: four daughters, Sherry Chirikas and her husband George, West Middlesex; Nancy Caputo and her husband Thomas, Hermitage; Paulette Darlington and her companion Gary Liberatore, Brookfield; and Jacqueline Steiner and her husband Michael, also Hermitage; a son, Bryan Bacon and his wife Debbie, Masury; 14 grandchildren, Georgina Allen and her husband Randy; Regina Sherman and her husband Shawn; Staci Rococi and her husband Jon; David Darlington and his wife Marybeth; Nicole Donatelli and her husband Nicola; Bryan Bacon, Jr.; Bradley Bacon and his companion Lena Hacker; Joshua Bacon; Janna Bacon; Melissa Fry and her husband F. Joseph; Jennie Wansor and her husband Joe; Joshua Nicholson and his wife Leah; Michael Steiner and his wife Melodi; and Rachel Steiner and her fiancé Zack

; 27 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sara Cer, in residence at St. John XXIII Home; Gracie Bernat and her husband John, Farrell; and Marge Mikis, Boardman, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nicholas A. Chirikas; a son-in-law, David M. Darlington, Sr.; and a sister, Winona Kulnis. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 660 Fisher Hill St., Sharon, PA 16146.
