A funeral service will be held on Monday for Gladys Viola Pape of the Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle who passed away peacefully of natural causes at 7:25 a.m. on Thursday (2-10-11) following an extended illness. She was 91.

She was born on May 27, 1919 in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of Harry and Mae Doyle Shaffer.

A lifelong resident of New Castle, she was employed at one time at the former Shenango China and the former Arena Roller Skating Rink both in New Castle.

Mrs. Pape was a homemaker who found her greatest joy when spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Her first husband James Barnes preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her second husband Christopher Pape.

She leaves her daughter, Carol McCormick, of New Castle, her two sons, Ronald E. Barnes and his wife Doris of New Castle, and Butch Barnes and his wife Nora of Edinburg, a sister Alice Kerr, of New Castle, 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, 27 step great grandchildren, and 2 step great great grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Martha Mayer, a brother Harry Shaffer, an infant great granddaughter Alexis Allen, and a son in law William McCormick.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday (2-14-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 West Falls Street, New Castle.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (2-14-11) in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dennis Bupp officiating.

Interment will be in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
