Gilbert Blom Sr.

Gilbert “Gibby” Blom, Sr., 70, of Masury, OH, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.

Mr. Blom was born on January 2, 1956, in Grove City, PA, a son of the late Frank and Marie (Trowbridge) Blom. He attended Grove City School District and honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He spent his career as a welder, a welding instructor and a foreman. Gibby began at Youngs Galvanizing in Pulaski, PA, and eventually retired from the former Trinity Industries, Greenville.

An avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan, he also had a passion for fishing and karaoke.

He is survived by five children, Elaina Scharba (Kevin), of Kane, PA, Christina Blom, of Hubbard, OH, Gilbert Blom Jr., of Altoona, PA, Brandy Robinson, of Grove City, and Lori Shipton (Butch), of Slippery Rock, PA; his former wife, Loretta Foor; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Olive Eakman (Rob); two brothers, William Blom (Cheri), and Frank Blom (Lisa), all of Grove City; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gibby was preceded in death by his companion, Denise Dignall; two sisters, Elizabeth and Sandra Blom; and two brothers, Robert and Roger Blom.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to a veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice.

Calling hours will be 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday (05/18/2026) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon. 

Military honors will be rendered at 3:30 p.m. by the Wheatland and West Middlesex Honor Guard.
