Obituary

Gertrude Tizak, 95, of New Castle passed away peacefully Monday evening, March 11, 2024.

Gertrude was born May 15, 1928, in Vienna, Austria, a daughter of Herman Kugal. She arrived to the United States on December 24, 1947, and was naturalized as a citizen in 1950.

For over 18 years, she worked as a dining room attendant for Wendy's at both New Castle locations.

Gertrude was an active member of Ladies Saxon Branch 27 of the Eintracht, New Castle, and served as its secretary for over 50 years. She was also the original developer of "The German Hour" on WKST/WBZY Radio and produced the show for 30 years.

Gertrude is survived by a son, Frederick L. Tanner (Amelia), of New Castle; three grandchildren, Douglas Tanner-Mansell (Michael), with whom she made her home in Bethel Park, PA, Brian Tanner, of New Castle, and David Tanner (Ashley), Coby, TN.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Walter Milachek.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday (3-14-24) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday (3-15-24), in the funeral home, with Rev. Aaron Kriss, officiating.

Interment: Castle View Memorial Gardens, Neshannock Twp.
