Gerald David McCormick, 88, of Slippery Rock Township passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, in St. Elizabeth Youngs-town Hospital.
Gerald was born March 19, 1927, in Slippery Rock Township, a son of Daniel and Pearl (Peterman) McCormick.
He attended Slippery Rock Township High School and served in the Marine Corps before being honorably discharged in August 1946.
Mr. McCormick worked in masonry his entire life and joined Bricklayer Union Local 17 in 1967. He worked for the union for 28 years before retiring in 1995. He was very proud to be a member of the bricklayer's union, and to have served his country as a Marine.
He was a former member of St. Joseph the Worker Church.
His wife, the former Dorothy Nicodemus, survives him at home. Also surviving are four children, Gail and Brian McCormick, both of New Castle, and Linda Burns and Bill McCormick both of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Joseph and Jason Lechner, Jodie and Jeff McCormick, Robert Jr., Richard and Kevin Burns.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary McCormick, who died in infancy, and Katherine Gerdneck; nine brothers, Thomas, Martin, Joseph, Carly, Bernard, James, Daniel, Michael and Lawrence; and one grandson, Brandon Moore.
All services will be held privately in accordance with the family's wishes. Burial will be in Mount Herman-Union Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
