Gerald "Jerry" F. Dunn of Sharon passed away at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Youngstown, OH. He was 87.

Mr. Dunn was born October 4, 1930, in Sharon, a son of Michael J. Dunn, former Mayor of Sharon and Alma Wilhelm.  Jerry attended St. Joseph Parochial Grade School and was a member of Sharon High School's graduating class of 1948.   He also attended Youngstown State College, Youngstown, Ohio.


He worked for 35 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a draftsman and programmer, retiring in 1983.  Following his retirement, Jerry was employed at Glowe-Smith in Warren, OH and Lehigh Design in Sharpsville.

Mr. Dunn was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #684.  He was a former member of the Sharon Civil Service Commission, the Kennedy Booster Organization and St. Joseph's Athletic Association. He served as a Democratic Committee Man and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and gardening.  He also loved to travel and walk in Buhl Park.  He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, especially his two granddaughters, Jillian and Cleary.  Jerry was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

His wife, the former Arlene M. Rusnak, whom he married October 26, 1963 in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, passed away on August 22, 2014.

He is  survived by a son, Dana Michael Dunn and his wife Maureen, Sharon; two daughters, LeeAnne Giebel and her husband Joel, Memphis, TN; and Lori Jayne Dunn and her partner Catherine Oehl, Columbus, OH; a sister, Bonita M. Niemiec and her husband John, Niles, OH; a brother, Donald J. Dunn, Ellicott, MD; two grandchildren, Jillian Marie and Cleary Ann Dunn; a sister in law Helen Dunn, Hermitage; and a brother in law, James L. Roberts, Sharpsville.

In addition to his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Aneita M. Roberts; two brothers, Raymond M. and Albert J. Dunn; an infant brother, Richard Dunn.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools, 2120 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148; or St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Avenue, Sharon, PA 16146; or Meals on Wheels, 396 Buhl Blvd., Sharon, PA 16146.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday (4/30/2018) in St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
