Gerald 'Jerry' D. 'Fuzzy' Staul, formerly of Shenango Blvd., Farrell, passed away peacefully of natural causes Wednesday (5-9-12) at 7:20 a.m. in Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, following an extended illness. He was 81.
Mr. Staul was born June 22, 1930 in Farrell, PA the son of Dominic and Mary Fortine Staul (Stavula).
He graduated from Farrell High School in 1949 where he was an outstanding football player, playing varsity football all four years.
Jerry worked for the City of Farrell as a Firefighter for over 25 years, he retired in 1984.
During that time he also worked in the construction trade.
A lifelong area resident, he was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church, Farrell. He also belonged to the American Legion, Post 432, Wheatland, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, and the Italian Home, both Farrell.
Jerry also served in the United States Navy he was on the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
Jerry always enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and a good day at the race track.
He is survived by his wife, Joan 'Jo Ann' Sweeney, whom he married September 27, 1952; two daughters, Geri Lynn Stefanovsky and her husband, Robert, Clark Pa, and Kimberly Staul, Nashville, TN; a son Bryan Staul and his wife Brenda, West Middlesex, PA; a sister, Betty Dugan, Pace, FL; one brother, Richard Staul, Mercer; four grandchildren, Julie Ware and her husband Steve, Frank Stefanovsky, and Jenna and Bryan J. Staul, Jerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Joseph, Louis, Charles and Harry Staul.
