Obituary

George E. Wilson, 87, of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in his home.

Mr. Wilson was born December 21, 1936, in Sharon, a son of the late Fred and Alvirda (Creighton) Wilson. A 1956 graduate of Sharon High School, he also earned an associate's degree from Youngstown State University.

George managed the New Castle branch of Signal Finance for many years and later worked in the same capacity for The Associates at their Butler and Hermitage branches.

George was an active member of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon, where he served on the parish council, volunteered for the fish fries, was instrumental in the fundraising for the church elevator, and sang in the church choir. He also served on the Mercer Borough Council for several years.

An avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan, he also loved camping, traveling, and the performing arts. Most important to George was spending time with family and celebrating the accomplishments of his grandchildren.

His wife of 51 years, Patricia Ann (Shayuth) Wilson, whom he married on June 22, 1963, preceded him in death on October 29, 2014.

George is survived by a daughter, Julianne Lavin (Anthony Leesang), Sunrise, FL; a son, James Wilson (Lisa), Arlington, VA; five grandchildren, Sarah Lavin and Blake, Kathryn, Rebecca, and Rachael Wilson, two sisters-in-law, Pauline Wilson and Helen Styduhar, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by son, Paul Wilson, three brothers, John "Jack," Wendell, and Howard Wilson.
