In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services for George Danos Sr. of Sharon. He passed away peacefully at 8:15 a.m. Sunday (7-31-11) in Veterans Affairs Butler (Pa.) Healthcare after an extended illness. He was 84.
Mr. Danos was born May 17, 1927, in Farrell, a son of James A. and Margaret Sarkady Danos.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Farrell High School in 1945. Mr. Danos enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served his country in the 511th Parachute Infantry. As a decorated veteran of World War II, he achieved a rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged on April 15, 1947, with several medals and citations including the Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
George was a pipefitter for many years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. After retirement he belonged to the company's clerks association.
George was of the Orthodox faith and was a former member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell. He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always doted over his family, whom he immensely cherished. In his spare time, George loved fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors, searching for wild mushrooms.
His wife, the former Patricia Ann Bertolasio, whom he married June 22, 1957, survives at home.
He also leaves his son, George Danos Jr. and his wife Dian, Sharpsville; three grandchildren, Leslie A. Danos, Kimberly M. Danos and James A. Danos; and his faithful pet, Abby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene Szabo; and a brother, Andrew Danos.
In lieu of flower tributes, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Butler VA Hospital. All checks should be made out to VA Butler Healthcare and sent to 325 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001.
