George Edward Schweiss

George Edward “Ed” Schweiss, 93, of Hermitage, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.

Mr. Schweiss was born on October 19, 1932, in Transfer, PA, a son of the late Martin and Luella (Ruffing) Schweiss. He was a 1950 graduate of Sharpsville High School and honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Following his honorable discharge, Ed, along with his father and brothers, owned and operated the former Schweiss Garage on Broadway Avenue in Farrell. Upon the sale of the garage, he worked as a mechanic for the former Steel Trucking in Wheatland until he retired in 1997.

A man of family and faith, Ed attended St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Sharpsville, and the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he assisted with funeral luncheons and collections, and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He made it a priority to attend adoration and pray the rosary.

He will be remembered for his gentle, kind demeanor and his great sense of humor. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and being in Florida.

His wife of 56 years, the former Gloria Tummolo, whom he married on September 27, 1952, passed away on May 16, 2008.

He is survived by four daughters, Angela Green (Gerald), of Adamsville, PA, Maria Schuwerk (Michael), of Dundee, FL, Cara Schell, of Greenville, and Katey Stigliano (Rick), of Sharon; two sons, Eric Schweiss (JoAnne Gladysz), of Hermitage, and Perry Schweiss (Kristen), of Morgantown, WV; 15 grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. Also surviving is his companion of 10 years, Betty Lou Fess; and a sister, Margaret Ann Broscoe, of Hermitage.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Long and Catherine Hutchison; and four brothers, Martin, Richard, Robert and John Schweiss.

Ed’s family would like to thank the staff of St. John XXIII Home, Steel City Hospice and Addison at Garden Way for the exceptional care and compassion given to their father during his stay.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday (08/08/2026) in St. Bartholomew Church, 311 West Ridge Rd., Sharpsville, with Rev. John Miller, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
