George S. Roman, 1802 Willowbrook Dr. NE, Warren, Ohio, formerly of Sunnydell Dr., Brookfield, Ohio, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Monday (2-8-10) in St. Joseph Medical Center, Warren, after an extended illness. He was 85.
George was born October 19, 1924 in Wheatland, PA a son of the late Roman and Maria Nikula Roman.
He attended elementary school in Wheatland and was a graduate of Farrell High School.
A decorated war veteran, George served as a Tech Sgt., specializing as a radio operator and gunner, with the U.S Army-Air Force in the European Theatre during WW II.
He retired in 1982 from the former Sharon Tube Company with thirty years of service.
George was a lifetime active member of Holy Cross Orthodox Church, Hermitage, where he sang in the choir. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to his camp in the Allegheny Mountains. He also went big game hunting in the western part of the United States on many occasions. George was a renowned world traveler and will be remembered by many as a generous man with a beautiful smile. Having been a bachelor until the age of 54, George lived and farmed in New Wilmington, PA for many years, prior to his marriage.
Surviving are: his devoted wife who cared for him at home during his illness, the former Blanche Musial Michaels, whom he married October 19, 1977; three sisters, Mary McFarland and her husband Bob, New Wilmington; Jenny Tuck, Wheatland; and Virginia Williams and her husband Bob, West Middlesex, PA; a brother, Earl Roman, Hermitage; and several loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank George's caretaker, Elizabeth Fabian of West Farmington, Ohio, for her loving and compassionate care during his illness.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by five siblings.
