Obituary

A funeral service will be held on Friday (1-28-11) for George R. Hemphill III, 1806 Graceland Road, New Castle, who passed away peacefully at 10:39 p.m. Sunday (1-23-11) following an extended illness in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh with his family at his side. He was 56.

He was born April 24, 1954 in Beaver Falls, Pa., the son of George R. Hemphill Jr. and Ann Miller Hemphill.

George graduated in 1972 from Moon High School near Pittsburgh. He matriculated to the California State University where he would later earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Parks and Recreation.

He worked for more than 20 years at George Junior Republic in Grove City where he worked in Clinical Management. He also previously worked for the New Castle YMCA as a youth director.

Mr. Hemphill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Castle.

George loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and raising Bengal Cats but his greatest joy was attending his children's sports and school activities. He also enjoyed traveling to fun destinations, especially Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

His wife the former Marsha A. Stewart whom he married on August 26, 1978, survives at home.

He is also survived by a son, Dallas A. Hemphill, a daughter, Skylar M. Hemphill, both at home, a brother, David C. Hemphill and his wife Sherry, North Fayette (Allegheny Co.), a sister Joann Kahn and her husband Don, Old Bridge NJ. his father and mother in law, Thomas and Nancy Stewart, New Castle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday (1-27-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 W. Falls Street, New Castle.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (1-28-11) in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tom Wilcox Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Inurnment will take place in Graceland Cemetery, New Castle.
