A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday for George Edell of Highland Road, Hermitage. He passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning (4-14-15) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 93. Mr. Edell was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Transfer, a son of Frank and Theresa Bogner Edell. A lifelong area resident, he was a member of Brookfield High School's graduating class of 1940. George retired with 42 years of service from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he worked as a coil winder. In retirement he belonged to several Westinghouse groups including its Clerks Association, Veterans Employees Association and Retirees Association. He belonged to Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. George was a member of the North Sharon Volunteer Fire Co. He loved bowling, a good round of golf, playing cards with family and friends and taking a chance on the daily number. A sports fan, he loved rooting for both the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He appreciated music, especially opera. George was a loving husband for 69 years; he married the former Mildred Fitzgerald on July 14, 1945. She survives at home. He also leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Linda Fuline and her husband Dan; George Edell and his wife Susan; Debbie Sturm; and Patty Davis and Jim; 10 grandchildren, Daniel J. Fuline Jr. and his wife Luci, Michael Fuline and his wife Amy, Tyson Edell and his wife Carrie, Joseph Edell and his wife Trisha, Christine Edell, Adam Sturm and his wife Kristen, Richard Davis, James "Erick" Davis and Jaclyn Davis; 16 great-grandchildren, Marissa, Isabella, Rylie, Gino, Giavona, Anthony, Lucia, Angelina, Michel, Dylan, Olivia, Madelyn, Marshall, Miles, Jackson and Logan; his three sisters, Eve Busch; Helen Keifer and her husband Bob; and Betty Terpack and her husband Charles; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank, Paul and Joseph Edell; and two sisters, Mary Horvath and Francis Evans; and a grandson Nathan Sturm. Our father will always be remembered for his caring ways, for his love of a debate on an issue, his excitement for trips to his favorite casinos or to the beach, but most importantly, for creating a family atmosphere of love, caring and support; he will be sadly missed.
