Obituary

George Frank Dolby, Jr. of Farrell passed away at 4:21 a.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Cleveland, OH. He was 71.

Mr. Dolby was born December 27, 1945, in Mercer, a son of George F., Sr. and Lois (Sauers) Dolby. He was a 1964 graduate of Mercer High School and was in the first graduating class at Penn State, Shenango Campus, earning his associates degree in business management. Frank enlisted in the US Army during the Vietnam War and served with the Big Red One, 1st Infantry division.

While in high school, Frank began working at the former Steel Car, Greenville, and continued there for 20 years. Later he was employed by the former Northstar Steel, Youngstown, OH, retiring in 2008 as a quality control inspector.

Frank was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. He was also a member and Junior Vice Commander of VFW post #5286, Farrell; VFW post #6345, Mercer; and the American Legion post #432, Wheatland. Frank was active in the Farrell Little League and helped coach his son's team to a city championship. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, bird watching and mushroom picking. Frank was a firm believer in the second amendment and supporting the military and veterans. He was a fan of Penn State Football, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Lee Barone, whom he married on September 18, 1965; two sons, Anthony Dolby and his wife Christine, Pottstown, PA; and Christopher Dolby and his wife Jessica, Concord, OH; a brother, Kenneth Dolby, IA; and his mother-in-law, Mary Barone, Farrell.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (10/05/2017) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be private.

Burial: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
