Obituary

Genevieve "Jean" B. Sabol, Farrell, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 8:10 a.m. Sunday (2-11-24) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.  She was 89.

Jean was born July 31, 1934, in Farrell to Daniel and Adeline (Cipriano) Mastrian.  She graduated from Farrell High School and belonged to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell.  Jean met John J. Sabol on a blind date.  It didn't take long for them to realize it was true love, and they got married on June 25, 1955, in Our Lady of Fatima Church.  She was happily married and committed to John until his death in 2015.  Jean was the 500 Rummy Queen of the family, relentlessly beating her children and grandchildren at that game every chance she got.

She was an active member of the church where she enjoyed her passion for music as the choir director for over 30 years and remained director up until her death.  She truly loved that choir, which she joined when she was twelve years old.

Jean believed in and enjoyed feeding the body, mind, and soul.  Her homemade pasta, sauce, and meatballs were a family favorite along with an amazing roast beef.  The recipes have been passed on but no one could ever quite reach the results she achieved.  She filled the role as family matriarch with her stalwart guidance but knew exactly when and when not to offer her sought-after advice.  Her devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus was unrelenting.

She is survived by her children, John Sabol, Jr. and his wife Carolyn, Michael Sabol and his wife Dolores, Mary Allen and her husband Michael, Susan Allen and her husband William, Joseph Sabol and his wife Karen, Anne Wesley and her husband William, Adeline McLaughlin and her husband Paul.  She was very proud of all her children.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Corrine and her husband Joseph, John III, Cameron, Julianna and her husband Michael, Sarah and her husband Ken, Rebecca and her husband Paul, Jennifer and her husband Jamie, Michael and his wife Priscilla, Peter and his wife Angeline, Thomas and his wife Kristen, Amy and her husband Kevin, Kimberly, Julie, Gina, Mitchell, Markus and his wife Jackie, Teressa, Genevieve, Catherine, and Michelle.

Jean also has 25 great-grandchildren:  Joseph, Casen, Cole, Kora, Rae, Hope, Paul, Rose, Mara, Finn, Michael III, David, Mark, Marcellina, Evelyn, William, Lincoln, Julia, John, Joseph, Emily, Thomas, Lauren, Abigail, and David.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, five sisters, Elvira Rotell (Frank), Yolanda Campisano (Fred), Margaret Fahr (John), Florence Vasko (George) and Adeline Marks (Richard); four brothers, Andrew Mastrian (Marie), Patrick Mastrian (Josephine), Daniel Mastrian and infant Andrew Mastrian; and her granddaughter, Jill Allen.
