Obituary

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday (9-19-09) for Genevieve Polonus, 98 Capital Court, Farrell, who passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday (9-16-09) morning. She was 84.
She was born on January 23, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of Andrew and Mary Richnavsky Ontko.
She graduated from Chaney High School, Youngstown, Ohio, and in her later years she earned an Associate's degree from the Pennsylvania State University, Shenango Valley Campus.
Genevieve was employed by Dean Foods and the former Brookfield Dairy where she worked in many capacities in the Payroll Department for 45 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church, Farrell, and a former member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.
Some of her hobbies included reading, traveling to local gaming casinos, and bowling in her earlier years.
Her husband William 'Bill' Polonus whom she married on September 15, 1972, passed away on May 10, 1988.
She is survived by four nieces, Nancy and Marilyn Carlos, Sharpsville; Nancy Gross, Boardman, Oh, and Alberta Osier, Canada; two nephews, Jim Carlos, Poland, Oh; Tom Carlos and his wife Sandy, Sharpsville; a step daughter, Linda Garnack and her husband Michael, Sharpsville, three sister in laws, Helen Horvath, Transfer, Mary and Beverly Magda, Youngstown, Ohio; two step granddaughters, Katy Slater and her husband Tim, Fredonia, and Jessica King and her husband TJ, Sharpsville; two step great grandchildren James and Jordan Slater. She also leaves her friend of many years Charlie Kardos, and several additional nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Helen Carlos, Peg Gross, Anna Marie Ontko, her half brother Frank Magda, three step brothers, Stephen, Joseph and John Magda, and her niece Judith Carlos.
Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday (9-18-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon. The Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home on Friday.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (9-19-09) in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church with Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. prior to the procession leaving for the church.
Cemetery: St. Ann's Cemetery, Hermitage.
