IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Genevieve
Calhoun
October 3, 1946 – July 21, 2024
Genevieve "Jean" Drljaca Calhoun, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at UPMC Passavant-McCandless, PA. She was born on October 3, 1946, in Sharon, PA, and was a graduate of Sharon High School.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Gina McVey (Matthew) and her grandson, Nathan McVey; as well as dear friends, Gary and Janet Minoff, their daughters, Allison and Sarah, and Sarah's son, Aiden. The Minoff family graciously provided a home for Jean and Gina for many years and provided great care for Jean throughout her health struggles.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jane Stafford.
Jean loved her daughter Gina fiercely and referred to her as "her gift from God." When her grandson Nathan was born, Jean's world was transformed, and she cherished every moment with him. She was thrilled to be his primary babysitter and devoted her time and energy to caring for him. Jean felt honored to be a part of Nathan's life and considered it a blessing to be there for "Gamma's Boy" whenever he needed her.
Jean was a fighter. She battled and beat cancer three times and had been in remission since 2001. Although cancer treatments left her with enduring health challenges, she continued to face them with unwavering optimism and strength.
Jean was a devout Catholic, and at age 18 was baptized at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell and volunteered for 35 years at the former Monsignor Geno J. Monti Parish School. Jean's faith in Jesus was foundational in her life and because of that faith, Jean is now resting secure in the arms of her Savior. "The time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." (II Timothy 4:6-8, NIV)
Jean will miss you and love you forever and a day.
