Gasper "Gus" Guerino, 92, of Farrell, passed away peacefully at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh, with his family by his side.

Mr. Guerino was born March 27, 1930, in Sharon, a son of the late Luigi and Raffaela Guerino. He graduated from Farrell High School in 1948, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. When he returned home, he married the love of his life, Rosemarie "Teakie" Veltri, on January 23, 1954. Together they had five children and were married for 68 years.

Gus worked at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant for 39 years. He and his wife, Teakie, owned and operated Rainbow Garden and purchased the Pennzoil Gas Station, both in Farrell.

Gus had an illustrious athletic career, which culminated into an induction into the Mercer County Hall of Fame. He lettered in three sports in high school and was a standout pitcher in numerous local fastpitch leagues. In the navy, he won many scoring titles for the Naval Basketball League. He also coached Our Lady of Fatima Basketball Team to many league titles and won the Parochial State Championship in 1968. An avid bocce player for more than 50 years, he participated in many leagues and tournaments.

Gus was the Commander of the American Legion, Post #160, Farrell, serving for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Teakie; four children, Jana Guerino, Jeffrey Guerino, Jody Weightman (Tyke), and Jill Izenas (Paul); a daughter-in-law, Melissa Guerino; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gus was preceded in death by his eldest son, Gary Guerino; three sisters, and two brothers.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, as celebrant.
